One of the most visited wonders of the world is the Great Pyramid of Giza, one of three pyramids located in Giza, Egypt – it is also the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Standing at a staggering height of 481 feet, the Great Pyramid of Giza was the tallest man-made structure for over 3800 years. It is believed to be built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu, but it stands out among the others mostly because of its immense size and precision of workmanship.
The pyramid was built with 2.3 million stone blocks that were so accurately placed together not even a single hair was able to pass through the gaps. It is also aligned with the Orion belt to Alpha Dragonis, the pole star.
It was originally covered with an outer layer of polished limestone, which made the pyramid shine like a diamond, but was unfortunately dismantle because of an earthquake in the 13th century.
The pyramid is located exactly at the center of the land mass of our planet
Archaeologists and historians have been baffled for centuries over how the pyramids of Giza were built. How could such a precise and well-thought-out structure come from the minds of an ancient civilization that existed over 4600 years ago?
Surely, there must be another factor involved in the creation of the majestic pyramids that have withstood the elements for thousands of years. Here’s what archaeologists, scientists, and other esteemed members of the society (spoofs) think.
This is one of the most popular theories that can be dismantled into dozens of lesser theories, to put it bluntly. The reason why aliens are involved is that no one believes humans were capable of building with such speed and skill.
At the time, Ancient Egyptians didn’t have compasses yet the Great Pyramid is perfectly lined up with the magnetic North Pole. The pyramids together line up with celestial objects, something that was possible to calculate only with math, and Ancient Egyptians didn’t have advanced math skills to help them achieve this.
In addition to that, the sun sets exactly in the middle of the Great Pyramid, which could have been calculated but Ancient Egyptians weren’t aware of the length of the year or the time of the summer solstice. Also, the sun circles the head of the Sphinx on the winter solstice.
There are alien conspiracy websites that claim aliens came to Earth to help the Ancient Egyptians build the pyramids as a sign of advanced technology. The websites also show Egyptian tablets that depict UFOs seen near the pyramids – of course, the tablets are hidden from the public so they wouldn’t cause global panic.
The idea of Joseph’s Granaries was a term Middle Age travelers to Egypt used as a description of the pyramids. Granaries are giant rooms where grain was stored and non-Egyptians believe that the pyramids were giant storerooms for the people of Egypt.
The term was derived from a passage in Genesis 41 which says:
…he gathered up all the food of the seven years when there was plenty in the land of Egypt, and stored up food in the cities… And Joseph stored up grain in great abundance, like the sand of the sea, until he ceased to measure it, for it could not be measured.
There is a similar quote in Quran:
(Joseph) said: ‘Give me charge of the granaries of the land. I shall husband them wisely.
During the Renaissance period, people started to travel to Egypt more frequently and the notion of the granaries was quickly dismissed. It didn’t people long to figure out that the pyramids weren’t hollow structures used to store grain.
Noah, the Prophet
In 1859, a British publisher John Taylor had a theory that Noah, the prophet who built “The Ark”, was the brilliant mind behind the design of the pyramids. Taylor also came up with a term known as the “pyramid inch” – one pyramid inch is 1/1000 greater than a modern age British inch and 1/25 of a “sacred cubit”, another ancient measure coined by Isaac Newton.
He also discovered that adding up all sides of the Great Pyramid in pyramid inches makes 36524, which is the number of days in a year multiplied by 100. If that wasn’t enough, a Scotish astronomer Charles Piazzi Smyth continued on Taylor’s research and published a 664-page book in 1864.
Smyth claimed that the Pyramid could be read as a history book, providing details about the past AND the future of the Earth. For example, the Grand Gallery of the Pyramid slopes downwards, which marks the beginning of the world.
33 pyramid inched later we come to the Crucifixion of Jesus. The gallery ends between 1881 and 1911 pyramid inches, a period Smyth believed signified the Great Tribulation before the Second Coming of Christ.
In 1884 in Philadelphia, a paper was presented. It claimed that pyramids were once natural hills that served as quarries from which rocks used in construction were excavated.
The constant excavation caused the hills to wear down and the Ancient Egyptians decided to turn them into pyramids. The theory was presented as the dismissal of the theory that large stones were carried from far away to the built site of the pyramids.
The Theory of Acoustic Levitation
If you’re not into aliens or arks, then you’ll definitely go with the last theory known as acoustic levitation. However, it doesn’t have anythinengineer with levitation. According to Swedish engineer Olaf Alexanderson
Acoustic levitation is a vibrating and condensed sound field (that can) can nullify the power of gravitation.
In 1939, Dr. Jarl, a Swedish doctor, traveled to Tibet where he witnessed a priest using sonic levitation to lift huge rocks up a cliff 250 meters high. Researchers connected this with the pyramids of Egypt, saying that this is how slaves moved giant rocks across great distances.
Ancient manuscripts mention the use of sound to help lift rocks and stones. According to theorists, the key was to find a scale that elicits a subtle vibratory response from the stone someone wishes to levitate. If the sound is sustained for a longer period of time, the stone will levitate.
So how did the Ancient Egyptians move 2.5-ton blocks of limestone and granite across 500 miles to build the Tomb of Khufu?
In 2013, Pierre Tallot discovered 4500-year-old rolls of papyri in a remote cave. The rolls were actually journals written by men who were part of the construction of the Great Pyramid. It was clear to Tallot that one of the scrolls stood out – the scroll of an official named Mereer.
He described his job leading a group of 200 men from one end of the country to the other, picking up and delivering goods. One half-day account states him stopping in Tura, a town somewhere along the Nile which was famous for its quarry of limestone, filling his boat with stone and then continuing up the Nile to Giza.
Meerer reported directly to Khufu’s half-brother who was overseeing the construction. Now, we know that the limestone was used as the outer layer of the pyramid, which means that the scroll dates around the time of the final stages of construction.
This revelation was quite startling for archaeologists and historians
It appears that the slaves dug out artificial canals before the construction so they could divert water from the Nile all the way to Giza. This allowed them to bring wooden boats directly to the construction site.
Archaeologists actually found evidence of the canals underneath the pyramids. They discovered a central canal going straight through the Giza plateau and seven boat pitas around the Great Pyramid. The final piece of the puzzle that confirmed their suspicions were traces of wooden ceremonial boats.
